Dear friends,
Being around other people can be a real pain. Life in a family, community, and society can be tortuous. At the same time, decades of research on human development and human psychology reveal that we thrive when we receive the right kind of attention, care, and support from others.
The Buddha seemed to offer us a path to peace, despite the suffering in the world. This way is often described as nonattachent. Western psychology has also helpfully described how essential it is for humans to be “attached” to each other. How do we work with the inherent suffering that relationships bring while also allowing ourselves to become attached in a healthy way?
You can join me to explore these questions and to meditate together at Downtown Dharma this Sunday, May 25th, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. The Downtown Dharma website provides details on attending in person or online.
With love,
Devin
